Week 1 Discussion: Awareness & Affirmation
Hi Everyone. Let’s use this space to share our experiences in the challenge, week by week. This week, we are building our awareness of negative self-talk, replacing it with a positive affirmation and noticing the impact.
The Universe sent me the opportunity to put this skill into practice yesterday when I carelessly put my business credit card instead of my debit card into an ATM for my bank. I proceeded with the debit card PIN, which was rejected twice before I received the message that my card had been blocked. I immediately went into panic. I assumed that my credit card was now completely unusable and that I would be having to undo the damage with trying to get a new credit card and notifying all of the services I use to run my business of the change. It felt daunting to have to deal with this just a couple days before going on vacation where I promised myself I was not going to do any work.
What followed was a lot of frustration with myself for being so careless. “How could I be so stupid!” AND then I remembered the challenge. I took a few deep breaths and found the following: “Things are still working out. Life is always for me”. When I arrived at my destination to visit family, I was able to be present for a few minutes before contacting my bank, who informed me that all was well. The message that the ATM gave me about my card being blocked was limited to it being blocked from trying to take out money from the ATM, not for anything else. What a relief!
The affirmation did not change the ultimate outcome, but it certainly did help me get off the path of self-criticism and get regrounded in trust that all can and will be figured out.
My invitation to everyone here is to share at least one experience of reversing or stopping negative thoughts that might arise in your day and the affirmation you used to turn it all around.
I look forward to experiencing this journey with you
Warmly,
Dr. Stacy🙏🏽
